Golf carts and utility vehicles may be used by licensed drivers on streets within the Town that have a posted speed limit of 25mph or less. There is no longer a Town registration required. The Police enforce street legal requirements and travel on permitted streets.

To obtain a business license, please come to Town Hall located at 15 North Street, Onancock, VA 23417.
The annual fee is determined by the Town Council. The current fee is $30.00.
Every business must be current with all fees, invoices, and taxes in order to receive a business license.
New businesses must comply with all zoning and ordinance requirements for the district in which the business intends to operate.
Meals Tax: 5%
Personal Property Tax: $2 per $100 of value. Personal Vehicles $1.70 per $100 of value
Business Personal Property Taxes: Effective 2022 the tax of business tools and equipment is $0
Town Real Estate Taxes: The Town Tax Rate is $0.28/$100 of Assessed Valuation
Transient Occupancy: All hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, or any short-term rental (Homestay like VRBO and AirBnB) must collect and remit to Onancock a Transient Occupancy Tax of 5%.

Dogs must be on a leash when off your property. And, please pick up after your dog when walking them. The town has baggie stations set up throughout town for convenience in picking up and disposing of the pet mess.
Picked up weekly (Wednesday) by Davis Disposal. You are provided one tote by Davis. If you want or need additional totes, you must arrange that with Davis. There is an annual fee of approximately $140 paid directly to Davis.
You are allowed one tote and one small bag of garbage each week. Any more than that you must take to the County dump or convenience center.
The fee for trash pick-up is billed on your bi-monthly Water bill.

The Town MUST have a completed and approved Zoning Permit Application (available here) in order for Accomack County to consider your building permit application.
