To reach Onancock by water, set the final leg of your GPS trip for FL G #1 at the mouth of Onancock Creek at 37º 43.47N and 75º 51.06W. This is the start of your run from the Chesapeake Bay into Onancock Creek. Follow the well marked Day Markers. Controlling depth in the main channel is approximately 8 feet. Since Port Onancock is a commercial port with fuel oil and gravel products barged in regularly, the channel is maintained by the Corps of Engineers and serves these major commercial vessels as well as a multitude of local fisherman and recreational boaters.
The Harbor is considered one of the best hurricane holes on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay and boasts basic marine facilities and other amenities for sailors seeking a unique small town atmosphere.
