John
Smith/Happy Birthday NOAA Weekend on Wharf.
Historic 1608 shallop replica and
exhibit tent. NOAA sonar charting craft and exhibit
tents. Delmarva Zoo (Salisbury)
traveling exhibit of 1600s Eastern Shore Wildlife. Escort boat
parade. Dedication of Onancock portion of new
National Water Trail of Chesapeake Bay.
Town band concert. Sea chanteys. Friday evening lecture at
ESVHS' Ker Place: "The Adventures of Captain John Smith".
In the year1608. Captain John
Smith sailed
an open boat (a
shallop) making a groundbreaking exploration of the Chesapeake
Bay. On May 12, 2007, a crew of modern
explorers will
board a 28 foot, open-boat, another shallop, at Jamestown
and embark on a 121 day adventure to retrace Captain Smith’s famous
expedition. Traveling by oar and sail,
the boat and her crew will voyage to every corner of the Chesapeake,
introducing millions of people to this incredible episode in America’s
history while blazing the path for America’s
first National Historic Water Trail. Come and
visit the boat in Onancock on May 19th
and 20th.

"Ye Bare and Ye Cubbe" - Retrieval and revival of the first
English language play performed in the New World, originally done in
August 1665 at Fowlkes Tavern, Pungoteague. A North Street
Playhouse production.

flagship Godspeed. Some

“A Voyage Through Time”:
Onancock VA 1607--2007
Onancock's new town
history, A Voyage Through Time, has proved so popular already that it's
now into a second printing. The book, written by eleven local
authors, covers Onancock's gaudy saga from the 1600s and before up to
modern times. Copies may be purchased for $15 each from the Town
Hall or from various sellers in town and elsewhere on the Eastern Shore.
